Being a boss is easy but being a leader takes a lot of courage and wisdom. For you to be a leader, you must be selfless and brave enough to face consequences. You must go hand in hand with the company and especially with your employees. if you feel like they are slowly turning their back at you, think again. Maybe you only need to do a little transformation or changes in the workplace. Here are some ideas that you are free and encouraged to follow.
1. LET NATURAL LIGHT SHINE THROUGH
Who knows that lighting can affect the balance in your workplace? Well, of course, it does. Try to imagine yourself working on your table with a dim light and curtains closed – would that make you feel comfortable and sound?
Your employees deserve a comfortable work set-up too. Don’t just hire them to work for you, hire them to feel comfortable working for/with you. Open the blinds or curtains, let the natural lights shine and refresh the workplace. Opening a curtain will not cause you a million less in your net worth, right? Making the workplace with a touch of home would make them feel less exhausted and less stressed. You must check if the lighting of the workplace is too dark or too bright for your employees to work in front of a computer without getting their eyes at risk.
2. TAKE IT IN A GREENER LEVEL
Who would have loved a workplace that is more like a haunted mansion? Who would have loved a workplace that is more like a prison cell? Would you love that? Of course not. Try to put some fancy things around the office. How about making your workplace a more nature-friendly look by taking in some plants? That is an incredible idea, right?
Let them breathe a fresher air by putting some plants in the workplace. It gives a peaceful touch and an additional oxygen in the office that may result in your employees’ mind to be relaxed and refreshed. It will somehow relax their eyes, tell them to look at the greens when they feel pain or itch in their eyes or they whether they feel stressed from too much working in front of their desktops.
3. STRETCH-AND-BREAK AREA
Put up a little space for them to stretch and break – this might be a simple thing for you, but it means a lot to them. You can’t expect anyone who could work on from morning to evening without having more than just one break. You hired humans, not robots, that must be always in your mind.
A healthy employee results in a healthy company. Allotting a stretch-and-break area would make them feel that they don’t have to swallow their pride in holding on those yawns and stretches they are longing to do. In that case, they would think that they have a shoulder to cry on – a room where they can do jumping jacks when they feel sleepy between the working hours, have a little nap, or just sit comfortably while relaxing their mind and body.
4. BE THEIR NO.1 MOTIVATOR
Yes! Be their no.1 motivator. A good leader is the one who inspires and motivates his/her employees. You own the company, they work for you and in that case, you are not the only one to take the credits for every success of your company. You would know the feeling of happiness once you shared every success with the whole workplace.
Also, try to compliment them in times that they deserve to. By that simple act, you are making them feel like their works matter to you, their job matters to you and that they matter to you. How about putting inspirational quotes every day? Or a little smile when they greet you in the lobby? Be the best boss that you can ever be.
5. REDESIGN YOUR WORKPLACE TO LIVELIER ONE
One thing is for sure, a boring workplace contributes to the lack of interest and energy of the employees to work. Why not conduct a meeting with them and talk about redesigning the workplace? Collect their suggestions and ideas so you would come up with a better result for the company and the best results for the employees.
Making the workplace more comfortable and peaceful makes a great possibility for the employees to enlighten each day. I doubt anybody would want to work in such a boring ambiance. Add life everywhere, make everything more worth working for.
6. FILL THE KITCHEN WITH HEALTHY “FREE” FOODS
Being a thoughtful and caring boss wouldn’t cost you a harm. Maybe you might earn the award by doing that, or simply have the feeling of satisfaction for caring for other people. In running a company, you must be selfless for your company to run farther.
Good deeds have always something good in return. By simply providing “free access” foods to your employees, they will feel like you care for them, and trust me, they will care for you too as you do to them – it is like a “give-and-take” process.
7. HR OUTSOURCING
What does HR outsourcing have to do with my employees? it might sound odd and unbelievable but through HR outsourcing, your employees can benefit too. Outsourced Hr support would take the stand to monitor your employees’ performance and take charge of their training. Primarily the development of a company helps support the growth of the employees.
8. FREE COFFEE!
Who works hard without drinking coffee? Well, I don’t drink coffee as often as other employees do. But I know how a person could be grateful for having coffee at work. So, better to add coffee in your kitchen stuff. Free coffee would help them by not going in and out of the office only to buy coffee in the nearby stores or coffee shops. And, it would give your employees more time to get socially attached to each other when they share the same area during coffee breaks.
9. CONDUCT TEAM BUILDING
It is the most advisable thing to do especially when you are merely new in the business industry and want to build a bond within the workplace. By conducting or organizing a company team building, you will build their trust with each other, their self-esteem, and their confidence that they can finish any given task alone or with a hand to help.
10. PROVIDE THEM A COMFORTABLE, TIDY WORKPLACE
A comfortable and tidy workplace contributes to the self-esteem of the employees. How? Well, simply by making them feel like they are treated the way that they must do. That their boss is also thinking of what is best for them and by giving them the peace of mind of having a working area that would not add on to their stress at work.
Building a company might be easier with money but building a company with happily working employees is a challenge to face. It depends on your hands if you would think only for the profit or the benefit of everyone.
